An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

The accused was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on recently.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the young males "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said the defendant proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
